Saffron rice

Ingredients

For 2-3 persons:

  • 250 gram basmati rice

  • 1 tea spoon kurkuma

  • 2 table spoons olive oil

  • salt (add to own liking)

  • 1 small lemon

  • 0,5-1,0 gram saffron

Saffron rice can be cooked in a lot of different ways, with a variable of products and cooking techniques. The recipe below is how we cook our saffraan rice, which we mostly use as a side dish.

We've added some extra options if you would like to try out different kind of products.

Recipe

Step two

Boil water. During this you can already let the rice fry or 4-5 minutes. Keep stirring.

Add water (we tent to put around 400-500 milliliter of water, so that there will be no water after a while). And now add 0,5-1,0 gram of saffron.

Step one

Start of with putting 250 gram of basmati rice into a pan. Use around 2 spoons of olive oil, a teaspoon of kurkuma (to elevate the color and flavor of the dish), lemon juice and salt.. Mix this all together, until the rice looks a bit 'wet'.

  • You can add onion (roughly cut)

  • You can add garlic 

 

Step three

Let the rice simmer for around 15-20 minutes, until all the water has disappeared.

Put it o plates, and if you want you can garnish the dish with a little bit of extra saffron on the top. 

​

  • This dish is nice to eat with: goat, lamb.
